WOW!!! Just WOW!!!! Veronica Roth is now officially my least favorite author. Who does that, just who does that!? I knew it was coming because my sister told me, but I still had a piece of me cheering for Tris to live. I mean, this is like killing Katniss in the Hunger Games, killing Bella in Twilight, Harry in Harry Potter, Pooh in Winnie the pooh!! I can go on forever but I don't think you guys want to listen to me for that long, so I'll try to cut it down.
From the very beginning of the book, I didn't like the writing style. The characters just didn't seem like themselves. They seemed more robotic. Now that I've hit the end, I would rather take fifty books with the same writing style than the ending Veronica Roth chose. Honestly I think she just chose that ending because she was hitting the end of her deadline for publishing it and rushed into an ending. But that's how so many books are, I feel. Mocking Jay was 10X worse than either of the other books, Breaking Dawn was about 5X worse. I think authors just get tired of writing, but that's no excuse to go and kill off the main character.
Anyway, even though I thought about shutting the book and throwing it out, I think I will continue and finish it.
I think that your first line is what everyone thinks after reading that part! I too did not like the ending and was told by my little sister how it ended before I read it too i was sooo mad at her. I mean Caleb had nothing to live for because he all his family was dead or thought of him as dead to them. Tris had Tobias like she sure loved him enough to think about him when making this descision. Caleb should have manned up and gone but no! ughh so frustrated! I totally agree with you, if you kill the main character you kill the story!
