The book I am currently reading is The House of Hades. This book is a 4th in the series Hero's of Olympus, which follows the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. This is my favorite book because over the course of the series you have grown attached to the characters and then suddenly in the last book, Mark of Athena, the two main characters, Percy and Annabeth, get thrown into Tartarus. House of Hades is an action packed story of how the group of 8 teenagers, have to travel to meet each other in Greece. I am less than halfway in, and the characters have already gone through so many problems. The friends of Percy and Annabeth are on their way to Greece and have encountered many road blocks such as pirates, thieves, and giant monsters! This is by far the best book I have ever read, and I'm not even done!

Questions: In this book, the main characters have to go through challenges to reach their goals. Some of their challenges include going through the underworld and fighting the worst monsters and most evil people. How can you relate this to a text to something situation?

Author: Rick Riordan

My favorite author is Rick Riordan. He is my favorite author because he has such a descriptive way of writing. He has such unique and amazing stories. They are interesting, creative, descriptive, and they make you feel as though you were there. My favorite series of his are also the most famous, Percy Jackcon and the Olympins, and Heros of Olympus. These take you through the lives of many half bloods, Annabeth Chase, Persy Jackson, Grover Underwood, and Thalia Grace in the Percy Jackson series. In the Heros of Olympus there is Persy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, Jason Grace, Piper Mclean, Hazel Levesque, Frank Zhang, and Leo Valdez. Rick Riordan has written more than 30 books, and is still writing. Here is a video showing his inspiration for Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning theif.

Summer Reading Book: The Wilderness Family

A major theme that occurred throughout my book The Wilderness Family is "the beauty of nature." Throughout the whole book the author, Kobie Krüger, describes the settings around her, she always describes the animals and lands as a place of beauty. "The sun sank into the Greater Letaba River, staining the water ruby red. Red deepened into purple, then paled to silver as the smoky- blue dusk developed the landscape. Nightjars started the evening serenade with bubbly songs."(pg. 24) This quote has wonderful description making it so visual and vivid you could be there.

Over the course of the book the Kobie changed a lot. She had never had people skills because she and her family lived in an unpopulated town by themselves. When the family moved to a more populated town she had trouble because she wasn't good at remembering names and faces. She doesn't know how to talk to other people but over the book she changes she makes new friends and changed from wanting to live isolated to being ok with having neighbors and going to the city every now and then. "Right there, at that moment, stood a person!" " After a while the stranger turned, spotted me and lifted its hand in greeting. I managed to wave back. But  I was shaken. I had neighbors within waving distance!"

This article talks about how the book is so realistic. It also talks about how Kobie's life is so different than the person writing the article. It describes the book as a "heartwarming, uplifting read that adventure and animals lovers alike will enjoy getting lost in."
